It's Hard to Be Sure...
For people who aren’t very knowledgeable about photography, you may be wondering what sort of events are normal to even get photographed professionally. My general answer is anything you want captured, you should get captured! Everyone values things and events differently, so there’s no right or wrong answer. However, I understand that sort of answer isn’t exactly helpful to those who may be wondering what their options are, so here I’ll lay out some of the most popular types of sessions people typically do!
1 | Headshots
Headshots are essentially professional portraits people get done for their resumes and websites. These are really important to get done in high quality, as they’re a reflection of you in your career. I recommend working with a photographer to get a really clean look.
2 | Senior Photos
This is a photo session for Seniors in High School, to celebrate their final year of schooling. These usually take place the summer or fall before their senior year, so the student can post them through the year and/or use them for their grad announcement (and party!)
3 | Weddings
Among one of the most pivotal moments in an individual's life, and it’s a celebration of love. With weddings, some people also chose to get engagement photos done, which I lump into the same general group. A wedding session is usually a pretty big deal, and your photographer may even need an assistant. Make sure to find a photographer you really connect with, since they’ll be the one in charge of capturing the happiest day of your life.
4 | Maternity Sessions
No matter how you feel pregnant, believe me I know it’s rough sometimes, you’re going to want those precious bump pictures to look back at. A maternity session is just as the name implies; a session for those who are expecting. This session can be you with your family, or just you and that bump! Even if you feel like you don’t want those memories, I promise you, you’ll regret not having them later on!
5 | Milestone Sessions
Generally, these are for your little ones as they make leaps and bounds in their development. These are sessions like newborn sessions, cake smashes, birthday sessions, and so on.
6 | Family Sessions
These are sessions to capture your family, as they are and are often updated every few years or so! If you’re someone family orientated like I am, these are essential to do! they really are customizable to what you want/need, and can take place anytime of year in a variety of settings.
7 | Holiday Sessions
Finally, these are more specialized sessions photographers may do to celebrate the holidays. Most holiday sessions are for Christmas, but some photographers will do other mini setups for Easter, valentine’s day, or even Halloween! Trust me, these sessions just make for the cutest photos for the different times of year!
